IAC Connects Risk Professionals

We recently hosted a breakfast networking event for risk professionals, led by our consultants Olivia Stephens and Aaron O’Shea.

There was a great attendance from brands like Tesco, WPP, Johnson Matthey, Specsavers, Network Rail, JLL, Natura & Co., and many more. The guests appreciated the intimate and fun atmosphere, the chance to make new connections, and the opportunity to learn about how others manage risks in their organizations.

Key takeaways:

Risk professionals actually LOVE getting together.

    • They were excited to speak with peers from different organizations and learn about how various risks affect businesses in different ways. For many individuals who work autonomously, this was an excellent opportunity to hear what other people and organizations were doing in the field of risk management.

We covered lots of topics that might not traditionally come up in the office or your wider teams:

    • People debated the broader meaning of sustainability and how misinformation around terms such as ESG and decarbonise is an internal and reputation risk.
    • Growing cyber-security concerns with advancements in AI.
    • Risk reporting lines and the development of risk champions in companies.
    • The event also touched on the risks of external factors, such as politics and black swans. Covid-19 was a particularly interesting topic of discussion. Although the occurrence of a pandemic has been a high risk for years, this was the first time in a long time that it actually took place. The discussions centered on what could be done to mitigate the risk of similar events in the future.
    • We also touched on talent and culture in the workplace, and how remote working has changed the way we learn collectively.

Hence why we think these events are such a good way to connect with your peers beyond the spare room office and triple screen setup! Overall, the discussions were lively, informative, and provided valuable insights into the world of risk management.

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees requesting that we organize another event in the future. So we will listen to the people. Stay tuned for our next Risk and Compliance event!

Maybe we will upgrade from breakfast to brunch.
